About our School

Our History

Beginning in 1976, Temple Baptist School grew under the guidance of its founder, Dr. Joe Olachea.  The school is an outgrowth of a vision which began in the minds and prayers of the Temple Baptist Church members, who felt a great need existed for a Bible-believing, Christ-centered Christian school to serve the Asheville area.  The Deacon Board, elected by members of Temple Baptist Church, serves as the school board. From 1979 through 1986, the school added a grade each year, and now offers grades four-year old kindergarten through the twelfth grade.  The primary sources of Christian textbooks and instructional materials are A Beka Book and Bob Jones University Press.

Because Temple Baptist School is an inseparable ministry of Temple Baptist Church, it teaches doctrine from the Baptist viewpoint only.  The church and school’s Articles of Faith encompass the Christian doctrine that will be taught. While students of other denominations are selectively permitted to attend, they may not propagate doctrine contrary to that of this church and school. The basic goal in Christian education is to provide the children of Christian families with an opportunity to be educated in a manner which is consistent with the Scriptures and that supports the home and the church. For this reason, we must have reasonable assurance that the parents and the child have this same desire.  Especially at the junior and senior high levels, the spiritual condition of the prospective student is an important factor in determining his eligibility to enroll.

Our Philosophy of Christian Education

God holds parents responsible for the education of their children.  Believing God has directed Temple Baptist Church in this ministry, dedicated faculty and staff serve parents in helping them fulfill their responsibility in child training.  When the home, church, and school work together, Christian character can be developed.

Because “All things were created by Him, and for Him; and He is before all things, and by Him all things consist…” (Colossians 1:16b, 17), every area of life must be Christ-centered. Each student must understand God’s wisdom, power, judgment, and love as he views history, science, math, English, music, art, character development, and life goals. Therefore, the student truly is enabled to have knowledge with wisdom, and to understand God’s design and plan for him. Christian education is that which is based on the truth of God’s Word because in Christ “…are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” (Colossians 2:3).

Our Articles of Faith

  1. We believe in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as verbally inspired of God, inerrant and preserved, and that they are of supreme and final authority in faith and life.
  2. We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons:  Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit.
  3. We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit, and born of Mary, a virgin, and is true God and true man.
  4. We believe that man was created in the image of God, that he sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death but also  spiritual death, which is separation from God; that all human beings are born with a sinful nature and are sinners in thought, word, and deed.
  5. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice, and that all who believe in Him are justified on the grounds of His shed blood.
  6. We believe in the “Eternal Security” of the believer; that it is impossible for one born into the family of God ever to be lost.
  7. We believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord, in His ascension into Heaven, and in His present life there as High Priest and Advocate.
  8. We believe in “that blessed hope” — The personal, premillennial, pretribulation, and imminent return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ when the church will be “gathered together unto Him.”
  9. We believe in the literal fulfillment of the prophecies and promises of the Scriptures which foretell and assure the future regeneration and restoration of Israel as a nation.
  10. We believe that all who receive, by faith, the Lord Jesus Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God.
  11. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, the everlasting blessedness of the saved, and the everlasting punishment of the lost.

Our Goal

Temple Baptist School was started in 1976, as a ministry of Temple Baptist Church, for the purpose of providing a Bible-based educational alternative to the increasingly secular education of the government school system. God commands parents to teach and train their children in a manner that is obedient to His Word and that keeps His Truth at the center of the educational process (Deuteronomy 6).

Luke 2:52 outlines the four aspects in which Jesus grew as a youth (academic, physical, spiritual, and social). The faculty, staff, and curricular choices within our program seek to develop these same four areas within our students. We believe the Biblical principles that there is no respecter of persons with God (Acts 10:34; Romans 2:11), and that all men are created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). Our students are taught to respect each other regardless of differences in racial or cultural backgrounds.

We would love to have you come and visit us and examine what Christian education is all about. Examine our core principles, meet our staff, and decide for yourself if Temple should be part of your child’s and your family’s future.
